That is the plotline of the popular 1970 Disney animated musical film The Aristocats, which has been adapted into a lively musical for young performers.
Opera Hunter is staging Disney's The Aristocats Kids for a school holiday season, with performances at Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre at Warners Bay and at the Wesley Centre, Hamilton.
The Aristocats Kids has a cast of 29 young performers, aged five to 17, with several alternating in principal roles at different sessions.
While The Aristocats is set in and around Paris in 1910, it has a 1960s jazz musical score that includes the foot-tapping Everybody Wants to be a Cat.
The story's animal characters include cats, wild dogs, geese and a mouse who helps to save the cats from wicked butler Edgar.
The show can be seen at Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre, in Lake Street, Warners Bay, daily at 2pm and 6pm from Tuesday, April 22, to Thursday, April 24, then Saturday, April 26. The Wesley Centre, Beaumont Street, Hamilton, shows are on Sunday, April 27, at 2pm and 6pm. Tickets: $25, concession $15, children 15 years and under $10, family (two adults, two children) $60.
