Five-eighth Jarrod Mullen tore his hamstring in pre-season training and was cleared for the 26-12 win over the Canberra Raiders at GIO Stadium.
Apart from Mullen's inclusion, Newcastle Knights coach Wayne Bennet dropped Willie Mason and Robbie Rochow to the bench, and replaced them in the starting pack with Chris Housten and Zane Tetevano.
Bennett's shake-up produced the result after the Knights' 28-2 loss to North Queensland in Townsville two weeks ago.
The Newcastle Knights will host the Brisbane Broncos this Friday, April 18, at Hunter Stadium.
The game kicks off at 7.40pm.
