One of the ways it does this is by delivering a newsletter to every household in the city twice a year.
Starting next Monday, the next edition of Your City will be delivered by Australia Post to more than 90,000 letterboxes.
So keep an eye out for it, to stay in the loop with what is happening across the city.
The council hopes you find it a good source of information on what it has been doing during the last few months, and what its upcoming plans are.
One of the features in the next edition is on Lake Macquarie's Citizen of the Year, David Helmers.
Since 2007, Mr Helmers has been instrumental in building many Men's Sheds in areas across Australia and making them available to a vast array of men of all ages.
The council is delighted that Lake Macquarie City has been able to recognise Mr Helmers' contribution not just to the city but also the nation.
Having met Mr Helmers, I must say he is a humble, unassuming man who is passionate about men's health.
On a similar note, this Friday is Anzac Day, a day to remember and honour the countless men and women who have selflessly fought for our country.
This year, I will pay my respects at Anzac Day services at Cardiff and Redhead.
