Held at Belmont 16s, the event drew about 300 people from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland - even a visitor from Victoria.

Local charities, community groups and businesses were on show, generating plenty of interest among the crowd.

Event co-ordinator Jenny Barrie said the expo was about highlighting the importance of improving health and fitness through diet, being active and volunteering in the community.

Popular activities included Heartmoves fitness demonstrations and an interactive healthy-cooking session, hosted by My Kitchen Rules contestants Carly and Tresne.
