Winter fish arrive

THIS time of year is a great crossover between summer's high-speed pelagic fish and the hard-pulling fish of winter.

Wash fishing was the best option during a weekend that can only be described as one to forget.

Those that did give it a go reeled in some nice tailor and bonito fishing in the washes on pilchards.

Berley and fishing light was the key to success.

Luderick season is upon us with some good bags of fish coming from the rock platforms around Newcastle.

The run of long tail tuna has continued and while the water remains warmer and there is bait, the tuna will remain too.

Mac tuna have also been caught and these fish make great cut baits for bream.

Squid fishing in the lake and inside Moon Island has been fantastic with plenty of arrow squid being caught.

As it gets cooler the bigger green eyes increase in numbers.

The western points of Lake Macquarie and any cockle beds are prime locations to spin larger soft plastics for flathead and mulloway.
