Bream plentiful in Hunter River and anglers also lucky in region's other sheltered water ways - Stockton Beach, Lake Macquarie and Lake St Clair

INSHORE and sheltered waters were the focus of most anglers during the past week.

Flathead up to 90 centimetres have been caught in the Hunter River and there are plenty of good bream around the bridges.

Using soft plastics has been the most effective approach.

Beach fishers have been enjoying some great tailor fishing along Stockton Beach.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a bigger bait out for a mulloway while you are chasing tailor as there have been a few nice fish caught.

Tailor have started moving into Lake Macquarie and have been caught around the drop over on the incoming tide.

Arrow Squid have started to go a little quiet. However, the larger green eyed squid will be increasing in numbers around toe kelp beds.

The hot water outlet is starting to produce some nice size and good numbers of luderick.

Bass fishing in Lake St Clair is largely focused on the weedy edges using soft plastics.
