Leather jackets have been the main catch during the day, however this changes as the sun sets and the trag and snapper come out to play.
These reef systems are also holding some nice jew - a welcome by-catch.
Snapper up to 70 centimetres have been caught on floating baits around Broughton Island.
For those heading further north there has been some better snapper taken around Edith Breaker off Seal Rocks as well as some fine bottom fishing on the wider reefs.
Lake Macquarie has been fishing well with plenty of good bream caught on the western side. The cockle beds in the south western corner of the lake are a magnet for bream during winter.
Blades and soft plastics are great ways of fishing the deeper areas.
