AFTER lengthy delays, Belmont police officers will relocate this week to Swansea Police Station while their headquarters are rebuilt.

A development application to upgrade the dilapidated Belmont Police Station was lodged in 2012. However, the plans were slow to pass through the Lake Macquarie City Council and the Joint Regional Planning Panel.

Last week, $11 million was allocated under the state budget to rebuild the station, which will become the Lake Macquarie Police Local Area Command.

Swansea Police Station has been permanently reopened.
