CALLING all Newcastle community groups, businesses and individuals.

The NSW/ACT Regional Achievement & Community Awards are now calling for nominations to recognise regional achievers.

These awards give you the opportunity to help someone who serves our community receive recognition for a job well done.

As an inspiring, innovative and civic-minded community, I know that we have many worthy contenders for these awards here in Newcastle.

By nominating someone you know who is helping to make significant change or to enhance the social, economic, commercial or environmental prosperity of our region, we can showcase the most valuable asset Newcastle has - our people.

Nominations are open until July 31, in categories including environment and landcare, events and tourism, regional service, community of the year and crown reserve trust (corporate manager or community manager).

Winners will receive either $5000 from Commonwealth Bank or television advertising on Prime7 in addition to a hand-crafted glass trophy.

These awards applaud our unsung heroes, acknowledging those people who are passionate in dedicating their lives or their professions to helping meet the needs of others.

I urge you to take the time to nominate someone you know who is giving their time and energy to make a difference in Newcastle.

For more information on how to nominate an individual, business or community project and for a listing of award categories, go to or phone the awards office on 1300 735 445.
