HAMILTON South Public School welcomed their local community into the school grounds with open arms last week with a Friends Day and Art Show in celebration of Education Week.

The school's 400 students put on performances for friends and family, as well as creating artwork to be auctioned off.
During the day the school's creative arts and performance groups put on a show, which included the drama group, dance, a recorder performance, a digital music production, choir, band and Star Struck dance groups.
Year 5 student Sophia Borthwick was proud to show her class's artwork - made of recycled CDs and wool - to her grandmother, Karen Broadhurst.
All silent auction profits will go towards installing wireless technology throughout the school.
Hamilton South Public School principal Sue Estens said it was important to invite the children's wider support network to their open days.
Extended family and family friends often had a big role to play in children's upbringing, she said.
"Today was not about putting on a show for the community - it was about showing what they learn in the classroom," she said.
"The students have been really excited about what they have been learning . . . and what they learn in the creative arts units really complements the English and the maths."
