Winter in the estuaries has been all about flathead.
The Hunter Rivers have been fishing well and double-figure catches have been common. The fish are holding in small patches, so drifting using a mix of soft plastics and natural baits is a great way to find them.
Concentrate your efforts in a smaller area for better results.
There have also been some nice flathead caught in western Lake Macquarie.
Once again soft plastics have worked well, or for something different, try using blades.
Salts Bay, Swansea Channel and Moon Island have been salmon central.
The rising tide has worked better than the falling tide.
Luderick and black drummer have both been found in good numbers along the ocean rocks.
Dudley and Catherine Hill Bay have been areas of note.
Lucy's Wall and the marina wall in Nelson Bay have been fishing well.
