Her previous three books were based on Australian-born aerospace engineer and NASA astronaut Andy Thomas and his adventures into space.
For her latest novel Dixon let her creative juices flow, with her protagonist time-travelling to ancient Egypt.
Jed, The Forgotten Egyptian Prince is told through the perspective of a teenager who is working on an archaeological expedition with his parents.
Fourteen-year-old Jed lacks self esteem and confidence, but looks certain to live out a new life as the first son of the pharaoh after embarking on a magical adventure.
With so many teenagers lacking the motivation to read, Dixon set herself the task of writing a book that spoke to teenage boys.
Combining time travel, adventure and ancient history, Dixon said she hoped to motivate teenagers to read while learning about self confidence issues.
Dixon said the difference in confidence levels between teenage boys and girls was staggering and hoped her book persuaded young men that they were capable of achieving whatever they wanted.
