Tony Ralph has developed a passion for flight simulation during the past decade.
The 53-year-old has built a replica of a Boeing 737 cockpit, which he keeps in his garage.
A panel-beater by trade, Mr Ralph turned his hand to IT and while helping a client with a computer problem he became aware of flight simulation.
"I've done so much online flying and research over the past few years that I'm totally confident I could fly to Adelaide and back in a real plane," Mr Ralph said.
His trade and IT experience proved invaluable in building the simulator.
This year, Mr Ralph will lead a team of 11 amateur and professional pilots in the 14th annual Worldflight.
Worldflight is an international virtual around the world flight, which raises money for charities across the globe.
The funds raised by Australian teams goes to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Since its inception, the event has raised more than $160,000 for the service.
The week-long marathon runs for 24-hours a day from November 2 to 8, with team members rotating at each of the 45 designated stops.
Pilots fly the simulator and report to an online control tower, which tracks the virtual flight.
Mr Ralph and his team, known as Mangrove 737, have a target of $10,000.
"I would be over the moon to reach that goal," Mr Ralph said.
Last year, they raised more than $5000.
