Squad members from 26 sports received their merit awards and a number of outstanding achievement awards were presented.
The academy has support from the NIB Health Fund, The Greater Building Society, the University of Newcastle, the Australian Hotels Association, The Forum and the NSW Office of Communities Sport and Recreation as major sponsors.
Junior sporting talent deserves the support of our community as their commitment, dedication and success at national and international levels provides Hunter youth with great role models.
Congratulations to Rhys Searant from Whitebridge for the Newcastle University Medal for outstanding achievement, and Isabelle Taylor for the Peter Taylor Trophy for outstanding effort, commitment and sportsmanship.
The presentation was conducted by the academy's chief executive, Ken Clifford, who is stepping down this year.
