The Hunter Region MS Fund-raising Branch faced closure in July due to a lack of members.
However, newly appointed president Haydn Lewis said an article published in The Star made a successful appeal for new volunteers.
About 15 people joined, and numbers are steadily climbing. The branch is one of 14 in the country that falls under the umbrella organisation of MS Australia and extends as far as Singleton and Forster-Tuncurry.
The branch raises money for the 583 people in the Hunter living with multiple sclerosis. Its next fund-raiser will be held this Saturday, September 20, at Westfield Kotara. The raffle will be drawn at 4pm.
