New Lambton's Bharti Tailor is at the heart of the move and said that Dragon Boat racing offers a different experience to the lake's other boating clubs.

The sport dates back to ancient China and features 20 crew with time-keeping drummer at the front, racing up to two kilometres.

"It offers a range of levels to race at and you make a lot of new friends ... it's very social," Tailor said.

Dragon Boats NSW is behind the move.
