The club secured a $7500 grant from mining company Glencore Coal for its junior learn to sail program.
With the money, the club bought six new O'pen Bic boats, which training co-ordinator Greg Fryer said were perfect for beginners.
"The Bics are the best choice out there for teaching kids about sailing and are much safer than the older boats that we have been using for many years," Mr Fryer said. "The Bics are a better, faster design and after a capsize they are back up sailing again in about 30 seconds."
The club also gained support from the local primary school and high school earlier this year through the Australian Sports Commission's Active After Schools program.
The junior learn to sail program starts on Saturday, October 11.
