Headed by retired Newcastle university professor Patricia Gillard, Community Too is asking train users how often they use the train, which stations they catch the train from, who they are travelling with, and their reason for travelling.
Professor Gillard said she had already collected 366 responses to the survey via online and in person.
Professor Gillard said she was collecting evidence to present to a state government inquiry into the planning process in Newcastle, which includes the decision to truncate the heavy line rail at Wickham.
The inquiry was launched soon after the Independent Commission Against Corruption heard that several Hunter state MPs accepted allegedly illegal donations, including from former Newcastle lord mayor and property developer Jeff McCloy.
Results of the community survey will be published online in the coming weeks, visit communitytoo.com.au.
