We welcome daylight saving and the long, warm days of summer.
This change of weather brings many fishing options.
Whiting have made the move to Lake Macquarie's sand flats, and live blood or tube worms and berley will fetch great results.
The Karuah River has also been fishing well for whiting.
School-size mulloway and large flathead have been hunting around the whiting in the Karuah River.
I would strongly advise against using small whiting as live bait. White jerk shad-style soft plastics are a great look-a-like for a whiting.
Blue swimmer crabs have been feeding in Lake Macquarie, Hunter and Karuah rivers, and Newcastle Harbour. There have also been some nice mud crabs caught.
Green eye squid have been about in good numbers on the Blacksmiths bait reef and the inside of Moon Island.
Anglers have been using live squid chasing yellow tail kingfish around Swansea Bridge. Smaller arrow squid have been caught in Swansea Channel.
Flathead have been loving the white bait schools around the western points of the lake.
