Next week they celebrate 50 years of teaching girls and young women essential life skills in creative ways.

The girls earn badges by participating in activities, which range from community service to first aid to cooking. The Warners Bay branch puts a fun twist on each.

To make first aid lessons interesting, the juniors bring their favourite doll or teddy bear to practise on.The girls are always rewarded with tasty treats after outdoor activities.

During some lessons, the girls are asked to share what they like about their fellow Guides.

This teaches five values: empowerment, collaboration, respect, passion and initiative.

Past and present members are invited to a reunion supper at the branch's Mount Hutton hall in honour of its anniversary. Junior Guides will serve canapes.

Guests will hear about the history of the hall, which was built entirely on money raised through a lamington drive.

Each person will also receive an anniversary badge.

■ Warners Bay Girl Guides' 50th anniversary reunion supper will be held on Friday, November 14, at the hall on Lamington Drive, Mount Hutton. 7pm start. The cost is $10 and includes food, drink and an anniversary badge.
