Our beaches have been firing for good whiting and bream this week.
Beach fishing is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to find some quality eating fish and we are blessed to have some fantastic beaches to fish along, either on foot or from a four-wheel-drive here in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
The better reports have been coming for Stockton Beach as well as Blacksmiths beach this week.
Whiting and bream have both been found in the shoreline gutters.
To find a beach gutter, look for water that is deep blue in colour between waves breaking on the outer sandbank and the beach.
Live worms for bait rigged on a running sinker rig with a light leader is one of the simplest and most effective rigs for fishing on the beach.
In other news, the Hunter River continues to produce good numbers of flathead.
There has been plenty of quality eating-size fish caught with a few bigger fish about as well.
Anglers chasing flathead have caught plenty of small mulloway, most of which have been undersize.
