Every night before bed, mum Zoe reads to her daughter Amy, 5, and son Jack, 7.
"It's the best part of the day," Mrs Disher said.
"They just love being read to."
The Dishers visit their local library once a week and borrow up to 10 books.
Amy loves to read picture books about dinosaurs, while Jack is interested in chapter books about adventure.
Earlier this year their devotion to reading was rewarded when Amy won the major prize for Lake Macquarie libraries' 2013 Summer Reading Program.
Both her and Jack participated in the national program, which is designed to encourage children to read.
For every 10 books borrowed, each participant receives an entry to win a prize.
As this year's local winner, Amy was treated to a private JD's World of Magic show for herself, her brother and 20 of her pre-school friends.
At the time the Dishers lived at Warners Bay and went to Speers Point Library.
Now, they live in Rankin Park, but will again sign up to the program this year as it is also available in Newcastle. This year an iPad Mini is the major prize.
