Now that the votes are counted and final, it's time to work together to move Newcastle forward.
We need to continue the revitalisation of our city and protect and restore our council services while making the council as open and progressive as possible.
You will be hearing from me on a regular basis with updates on the council's plans and progress for Newcastle's future as well as ongoing community-based activities and events.
For your part, I ask you to get involved and stay involved in our community.
Take advantage of opportunities to have your say, to attend local events, to support local organisations and get to know your neighbours and the businesses in Newcastle.
Be a part of the arts and cultural events we offer to the community through Newcastle Art Gallery, Civic Theatre, Newcastle Museum, Fort Scratchley and Newcastle Region Library.
Summer provides a fantastic opportunity to get involved, with heaps of outdoor events, festivals, concerts, AFC Asian Cup action and activation in the Honeysuckle precinct.
Mark your diary now for two upcoming events that will bring the arts outdoors.
The first one is the launch of the LIKE US: Patricia Piccinini exhibition for Newcastle Art Gallery, from 5.30pm this Friday, November 28.
Bring the family out for children's activities, food, wine and live entertainment in Civic Park and Laman Street and see The Skywhale, Piccinini's fanciful hot air balloon art work.
The following Saturday, December 6, head back to Civic Park for the Summer Art Bazaar from 10am to 9pm, featuring crafts, food stalls, kids activities and entertainment.
