The Jets have picked up just four points from a possible 30 this season, and sit second-bottom on the A-League table.
It was a case of new week, same story for Newcastle fans, with the Jets’ early pressure on Perth undone with a lapse at the back.
An unmarked Richard Garcia pounced on a rebound to fire past a hapless Ben Kennedy after just 11 minutes.
Garcia’s goal was the latest example of the drastic problems that have faced Newcastle’s defence this season.
However, there was a fair chunk of fortune about Perth’s opener, with Jets defender Scott Neville forced into making a last-ditch attempt to cut out a pass aimed at the clearly offside Danny De Silva, with the ball falling kindly to Garcia.
Perth continued to dominate the match but couldn’t add to their lead before the half-time break.
It was more of the same in the second half, with Perth controlling the game and Newcastle struggling to produce any meaningful moments in attack.
Still, Newcastle were presented with an opportunity to level the scores midway through the second period, but the under-fire David Carney blazed his shot over the crossbar with only the goalie to beat.
The night worsened for the Jets in the 82nd minute when skipper Kew Jaliens was shown a red card for a rash challenge on Perth left-back Scott Jamieson and Perth doubled their advantage soon after courtesy of a fierce strike from Nebojsa Marinkovic in the 86th minute.
Newcastle next face high-flyers Adelaide United at Hunter Stadium this Friday night, with the club offering $1 tickets in celebration of the club’s 10th anniversary.
