7.30 ACT presenter Chris Kimball and long-time producer Patricia Barraclough are leaving the public broadcaster after the state editions of the current affairs program were axed amid budget cuts.

Parliament house reporter Lyndal Curtis has also announced her resignation.

Ms Barraclough has spent four decades intelevision and radio. She joined the ABC in the 1970s, working on daily current affairs program This Day Tonight.

She was an inaugural host of Lateline alongside Kerry O'Brien, and was co-creator and first supervising producer of Australian Story.

Ms Barraclough spent the past 13 years working on 7.30 ACT, formerly Stateline ACT.

Director of news Kate Torney said Ms Barraclough's departure signalled the loss of a valuable mentor from the Canberra newsroom.

Mr O'Brien said Ms Barraclough was "one of the very best I've worked with over nearly 50 years in journalism".

Ms Barraclough's out-of-office email confirmed the departure of both 7.30 ACT journalists: "The ACT edition of 7.30 no longer exists. Both Chris Kimball and I have left/are leaving the ABC."

Mr Kimball had presented Stateline and 7.30 ACT since the beginning of 2009.

Ms Curtis confirmed her departure on Twitter this week.

"Yes, it's true. After 21 years, I'm leaving the ABC. It's with some sadness but it's the right decision for my family," she said.

"My last day is [Christmas Day]. And having said that, I have no idea what I'll be doing (apart from having a rest). So I'm open to offers."
