The trailer, worth about $5000, is believed to have been stolen on January 3 or 4.
Stockton Surf Life Saving Club president Callan Nickerson said the trailer was a vital part of the club, used to transport rescue boards and surf skis for club competitions.
The trailer was was also used to the transport the IRB over longer distances.
Although the trailer was covered by insurance, the club now faces higher premiums, adding an extra financial burden to its volunteer members.
‘‘It’s not Monopoly money we’re playing with here - it’s a lot of sausage turning and raffles we’ll have to run to get that money back,’’ Mr Nickerson said.
He said the club needed to raise about $100,000 each year to stay afloat.
The club will be relying on two of its major fund-raisers for the year to recoup some of the cost, which will be both be held on Australia Day.
The Newcastle Harbour Swim and the Ducks 4 Dollars campaign, which both attract hundreds of entrants and spectators every year. Mr Nickerson said the club would have to borrow another surf club’s trailer for the harbour swim, so it could transport its rescue boards for the course marshalls.
