For the second year, the community group has decided to hold a morning tea for senior citizens as part of its annual Australia Day celebrations at Allambee Park.
Historically, the day has been centred around a cricket match that attracts about 200 people - mostly young children and their parents. But over the past couple of years, club president Bruce Harris has noticed a few elderly residents have joined the celebrations.
"They like to sit on the outskirts and watch the cricket and listen to the music," he said.
"We thought it would be nice to do something especially for them. That's where the idea came from for the morning tea."
This will be the second year the club has hosted the morning tea, which includes scones, cake, coffee and tea.
Secretary Ann Ryan said the club loved hosting it.
"Last year it was such a hit. We served them on trays and waited on them like a cafe and they were over the moon."
■ Valentine Lions Club Australia Day celebrations start at 9am at Allambee Park with a flag-raising ceremony and the national anthem. A traditional Aussie barbecue breakfast will be served followed by the senior citizens' morning tea at 10am. Both are gold coin donation events. Cricket is played until 12.30pm.
