The Ducks 4 Dollars campaign is a vital part of the fund-raising campaign run by Hunter Surf Life Saving to support its volunteer rescue members.
Residents and local businesses are encouraged to buy a duck to swim in one of the races, which cost $5 each or $100 for corporate ducks.
The rubber ducks can be bought on the day up until 10am, with proceeds from the race to go towards life-saving equipment.
Merewether Surf Life Saving Club is leading the charge among local clubs to raise the most money. It is on track to raise between $14,500 and $20,000.
Last year the club bought a second ATV (all-terrain vehicle) with the money it raised, plus rescue boards and first aid equipment.
Stockton Surf Life Saving Club is looking to recoup some of its losses after its trailer was stolen in early January.
The day will start with the club race first, followed by the sponsors' race, the corporate race, then the yellow duck race with $3000 in prize money.
■ The Ducks 4 Dollars fund-raiser will be held at the Queens Wharf Brewery on Australia Day, Monday, January 26, from 10.30am.
