For some, such as those starting kindergarten, this will be their first taste of school life.
For others it will be their final year of study before commencing a career, apprenticeship or tertiary education.
I wish all of our students the best of luck on their first days of school and hope they flourish as the year progresses.
These students play a vital role in the community of Lake Macquarie.
Their input on important issues that affect the area is invaluable to the council.
The Lake Macquarie Youth Advisory Council is just one avenue that young people can use to provide their feedback into council decisions.
Membership to the Youth Advisory Council is open to young people living in Lake Macquarie who are aged between 12 and 24 years old.
If you are, or know of, a young person who would like to see a change in your community or have a suggestion for the way things can be improved, I encourage you, or them, to join the Youth Advisory Council.
Go to the council's website - lakemac.com.au/services/youth/advisory-council - to find out how.
As we return to school, it is timely to remind all motorists to adhere to the road rules - and please slow down to the 40km/h speed limit when in school zones.
