For some, last week would have marked a new beginning, as children were sent off to their first day of kindergarten.
For others, it's all about getting back into a routine.
The Star's reporters Mark Connors and Georgia Osland visited Hamilton South and Speers Point public schools during the first week back to get the low-down from year 1 students who were settling into their new classes.
The Hamilton South students were asked about their dream future job, what was in their school lunchbox and if they had any advice for future students.
Students at Speers Point were asked two important questions: what was their favourite school lunch and what advice would they give to kindergarten students.
Their answers might surprise you.
Hamilton South Year 1 students
Molly Phelps
Dream job: Paediatrician, because I like helping little kids and babies. Advice for new kindies: Obey the rules and do the five ‘Ls’ - cross legs, close lips, listen, arms in laps, look at the teacher. Today’s lunch: Cheese sandwich.
Brayden Candy
Dream job: A vet. I want a golden retriever but we can’t right now because our fence has holes in it and needs to be fixed. Advice for new kindies: Play soccer; it’s fun. Today’s lunch: Cheese and crackers.
Elliott Macartney
Dream job: Car mechanic, so I can get lots of money and spend it on food. Advice for new kindies: Be mad crazy. Because I am. Today’s lunch: Tuna or ham and rice wheels.
Isla Macgregor
Dream job: A kindergarten teacher because I like little kids. Advice for new kindies: You can make new friends by playing. It was pretty easy for me because I was shy in kindergarten and everyone came up to me and asked me to play. Today’s lunch: I don’t know. It’s different every day. But I like everything so it doesn’t matter.
Timothy Dowzer
Dream job: Own a gadget shop so I can sell things like teleports. And if they don’t exist I’m going to invent them with my friend Tom. Advice for new kindies: Don’t play games that include kicking, punching or hitting. Today’s lunch: Cheese and butter sandwich. Or maybe just cheese.
Kendal McKinlay
Dream job: High school PE teacher because you get to do lots of sports. Advice for new kindies: Play lots of games. Today’s lunch: Rice crackers with Vegemite.
