The Snack Shack operates from the school canteen every Wednesday during recess from 1.30pm.
The school P&C committee developed the idea for the student-run service in response to a high demand for the canteen - which normally closes after lunch - to open at recess.
Eight year 6 students had their first crack at customer service last Wednesday. They delegated tasks among themselves, from serving to washing up to counting money.
The students, together with canteen manager Janelle Norton, created the menu in line with the Healthy Kids Eating Guidelines and helped prepare the food.
On the menu last week were fruit skewers, banana bread and milkshakes. However, the menu will change from week to week based on suggestions from the students.
Mrs Norton said she had adjusted the fat content in some of the recipes by substituting products, for example replacing margarine in muffins with apple sauce.
Students will build their mathematical, teamwork and organisational skills during the program.
