Fantasy, adventure and spy sagas became her favourites.
Two years on, her fervour for fiction has led her to win a prize for participation in a national reading program.
Designed to promote reading to children aged 16 and under, the State Library of Queensland-run Summer Reading Program was available at all Lake Macquarie libraries throughout December and January. For every 10 books borrowed, each participant received an entry to win a prize.
As this year's local winner, Paige received an iPad mini.
She was one of 372 children to join a Lake Macquarie library during the program.
Paige joined Swansea Library at the suggestion of her librarian at St Patrick's Primary School.
The bubbly year 4 student said she was glad she signed up. "I like the library because it's nice and quiet. I borrow books all the time and read every night before bed."
Paige said reading new books gave her inspiration for school book week parades, of which she was already a fan.
