I enjoy reading The Star for local news, but lately the way The Star has reported the truncation of the heavy rail has disappointed me.

Why are there no good news stories about the truncation, like finally, a breath of fresh air has wafted into Newcastle, finally you can roam more freely from the mall to the waterfront?
Why not some news about the improved traffic flow across Stewart Avenue and the Civic level crossing?
I can’t wait unitl the fences come down and more crossings are made available. I can’t wait till the entire corridor is opened up for cycling and other activities.
Newcastle needs this turnover pulse.
The Star wrote that “more than 250 people” attended the town meeting on the post-truncation of the heavy rail (Wednesday, February 18, 2015).
What about the other 25,000 people (or more) in Newcastle who finally saw a government act and stop wavering like a blade of grass in the wind?
I applaud the state government for axing the heavy rail from Wickham.
Time and history will prove it was the right decision. Joy Cummigs would have applauded it, as it now offers the opportunity to link up a green corridor teh entire way from the foreshore to Throsby Creek. And that cannot be a bad thing.

PS: And yes I ride the train often. I used to walk to Civic. Now I just walk, or ride, or park and ride to Broadmeadow. For those people coming from Stockton, they’ll have to get used to the disruption until better bus connections are available, or heaven help us, a light rail (which we don’t need).
