The film night is a great chance to celebrate the important contribution women make to families, workplaces and communities.
The event really is one for everyone, and a great opportunity to see some amazing films that have been either written, directed or produced by a woman.
As international Women's Day grows from strength to strength annually, it is still worth remembering that the journey toward equality is ongoing.
There is still a 17 per cent pay gap in Australia and a high number of women living in poverty as a result.
Another event that is going from strength to strength is Clean Up Australia Day, and again Lake Macquarie women, men and children were keen to lend a hand last weekend.
More than 60 community, business and school sites around the city registered for the event and 6.1 tonnes of rubbish was removed from our lake foreshore, bushland, beaches and parks.
I encourage everyone from the Lake Macquarie area to come along to enjoy the series of short films on March 6 for International Women's Day.
