Maitland is about 25 miles north of Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.
It is a suburb of Orlando and has 14 lakes including one called Lake Maitland.
According to a media spokeswoman for the City of Maitland in Florida, the people in Maitland love to spend time at the farmers markets.
Every Sunday crowds go to the beautiful Lake Lily Park to grab fresh food and watch the Performing Arts of Maitland put on a show.
In 2014 the city held a grand opening of the Maitland SunRail station, marking the return of passenger rail service to the area and Maitland's Enzian cinema well-known as the venue for the annual Florida Film Festival.
Maitland's campaign to get on the Monopoly map has also been picked up by the Winter Park/Maitland Observer, a community newspaper in Florida.
The newspaper has even quoted Mayor Peter Blackmore in an effort to monopolize Maitland.
First to join our forces was Maitland in South Australia.
The town is part of the Yorke Peninsula and Mayor Ray Agnew OAM said Maitland would love to make it on to the Monopoly board.
“South Australian Maitland residents are extremely proud of their vibrant region, and would love to showcase their productive farming land renowned for its high quality barley and wheat production, wineries and stunning coastal landscape to the world,” he said.
“One of the great things about Yorke Peninsula residents such as those in Maitland is that they are always happy to lend a helping hand when asked.”
Just like our Maitland, Maitland in South Australia is within easy reach of wineries, beautiful beaches and scenic drives.
“This competition provides a fantastic opportunity to highlight the hidden gems of regional Australia that many people are yet to discover,” he said.
“We would be delighted to put Maitlands on the map, or board as the case may be.”
