The pair celebrated top results at the NSW Age Championship in Umina Beach, ending the surf lifesaving season on a high and contributing to the club's overall point score of 77.

Ashby, 12, won his first state title in the under-12 board race.

One age bracket below him, 11-year-old Beau snatched a double in the under-11 board and swim races - a feat he has not pulled off since his first state championships at age nine.

They also finished third (Ashby) and fifth (Beau) in their respective ironman events.

The dynamic duo described feeling "surprised" and "proud" on the day, and said there were "lots of high-fives".

Their achievements came off the back of a strong performance at the Hunter branch titles at Fingal Bay in February.

Ashby placed third in the board and swim events and second in ironman, while Beau finished second in swim and third in board.

Beau and Ashby will now hang up their caps until a new season dawns in October, as the surf lifesaving circuit ends with state championships for nippers under 13.

With eight years' experience in surf lifesaving between them, the pair will be looking to capitalise on a strong season when they return, with a shared dream to become Nutri-Grain Ironmen.

In the meantime, the boys turn their attention to winter sports.

That means rugby league for Beau and soccer for Ashby.

But both quietly agreed that it could not compare to feeling on top of the world among the waves.
