Just over 4000 fans braved torrential rain at Hunter Stadium as Newcastle hoped for a win that would see them move off the bottom of the A-League table.
Some fans showed their frustration with the Jets' poor season with a large banner directed at club officials calling for the dismissal of coach Phil Stubbins.
On the field, Newcastle could be confident of a result with Perth having been embroiled in a salary cap scandal in the lead-up to the match - one that would surely have been weighing on the minds of the Glory players.
However, it was Perth who emerged victorious despite enduring heavy Newcastle pressure throughout the match.
It was another story of wasted opportunities for the Jets, who had enough chances to win any game; the youthful Newcastle side spurned several glaring looks at the goal, had multiple goal-bound efforts well blocked by Glory defenders and even hit the crossbar for their troubles.
At times it seemed as if some invisible force was preventing the ball from entering Perth's goal.
At the other end, an experienced Glory team were clinical in front of goal despite being starved of genuine goal-scoring chances for large periods.
Andy Keogh opened the scoring shortly after half-time after Jets keeper Ben Kennedy could only parry a drive from Sidnei Sciola.
The loose ball fell to Jamie Maclaren who found Keogh at the far post and the Irishman nodded home from close range.
The goal came just minutes after Newcastle should have taken the lead through Mitch Cooper, who sent a free header wide of the post with only Glory goalie Danny Vukovic to beat.
Andrew Hoole had a number of chances to equalise for Newcastle; the winger had beat Vukovic with a low shot only to see it blocked by Dino Djulbic before he blasted a close-range volley across goal late on.
Perth sealed the points in the 84th minute when Nebo Marinkovic burst into the left edge of Newcastle's penalty area.
The Serbian hit a wonderful outside of the boot volley across-goal which beat an outstretched Ben Kennedy and nested in the back of the net via the post.
The win saw Perth draw level on points (44) with ladder-leaders Melbourne Victory, who take on Newcastle in Melbourne this Friday night.
