Exhilaration fuelled the laughter after leaving the plane and free-falling at more than 200 km/h for 60 seconds.
After the quick jerk of the canopy opening, pure amazement took over as the most beautiful view of the coastline from Nelson Bay to Norah Head and the vastness of Lake Macquarie sprawled below.
Dangling from the tandem harness felt secure, especially with knowledge that the instructor Joe had years of experience and hundreds of jumps under his belt.
In the plane on the way to the drop point, exclamations about the scenery unfolding were met with "have skydived all over the world and this is one of the most spectacular".
He was right: the vibrant blue and green hues of the water, the golden sands, coloured sails dotted on the lake and muted tones of the houses on the land painted a mesmerising picture.
Floating like a leaf, then spinning the canopy in wide circles like a soaring eagle just added to the sensory experience.
It was fun to learn these manoeuvres but the canopy's control were soon handed back, so the spectacle below could be absorbed while drifting for about seven minutes back to a soft landing cushioned by the derriere.
My first jump can be re-lived again and again with photos and video.
My adventure tale is either met with "wow, I have always wanted to do that", "have done that - isn't it great" or "you must be mad".
It was amazing, an incredible experience and another bucket list activity done A return visit is on the cards.
