At Don Small Oval, eight goals from Jono Gourlay was the catalyst for Terrigal Avoca’s 16.8 (104) to 6.2 (38) win over a gallant Nelson Bay.
Travelling to the Central Coast to take on Terrigal Avoca for the second time this year was a difficult task for the Marlins.
However, they were determined to take it to the league’s benchmark and got off to the perfect start when Nathan Vaisey, playing his 50th game for the club, snapped the first goal of the game.
The Panthers responded and were able to lead by 25 points at the first change.
The third quarter saw Terrigal Avoca break the game open as their midfielders gave Gourlay a number of scoring opportunities, whilst also keeping Nelson Bay scoreless to hold a 57-point lead at the final break.
The Marlins kicked four last-quarter goals to claim victory by 66 points.
Killarney Vale returned to the winners list with a 17.14.116 to 4.7.31 win over the winless Cardiff Hawks at Adelaide Street Oval. It was a case of déjà vu when Newcastle City took on Warners Bay at No 1 Sportsground. Warners Bay were blown away in the first quarter against the Blues on their way to a 16.10 (106) to 4.6 (30) defeat.
In first division, Newcastle City came from behind all day to defeat Warners Bay by five points in a thriller match at No 1 Sportsground.
Maitland, Terrigal Avoca and Cardiff won their games.
In second division, Warners Bay, Muswellbrook, Nelson Bay, The Entrance Bateau Bay, Killarney Vale and Terrigal Avoca all recorded wins.
