DRESSED in a red tutu, fairy wings and sequined headband, Gateshead’s Sarah Williams smashed a self-set 12-hour treadmill challenge fundraiser in style.
Red is the colour of MS Australia, the organisation for which Ms Williams raised more than $400 during the challenge at Planet Fitness Charlestown on Wednesday.
The mother-of-one walked about 70 kilometres from 8am to 8pm, stopping only for a five-minute break every three hours.
Through cash donations Ms Williams raised more than $400 for MS Australia’s annual MS Walk and Fun Run, which she will enter this Sunday, May 31, at Sydney Olympic Park.
Together with online donations, Ms Williams has raised almost $1000 for the cause.
The money is used to support people like Ms Williams who live with MS, a disease of the central nervous system that can impact on speech, vision and mobility.
After the treadmill challenge, Ms Williams said the five-kilometre fun run would be easy.
‘‘I have sore feet and blisters after the treadmill challenge, but I’m confident about the MS Walk,’’ she said.
