Lake Macquarie council accepted a tender by Toronto-based company Hunter Wharf & Bridge to design and build it.
Perched upon the shore of a park in Bareki Road, Eleebana, the existing ‘‘Valentine Jetty’’, as the council calls it, was built more than 20 years ago and has started to deteriorate.
The old jetty will be replaced entirely.
Councillor Laurie Coghlan said the council had decided to do a ‘‘full reconstruction’’.
‘‘It’s good to see we weren’t going to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars just repairing this [jetty] when we really needed a new one.’’
