At Dick Burwell Oval, both Nelson Bay and Newcastle City entered the match unbeaten. The Marlins won 2.1 (13) to 1.1 (7).
As the scoreline showed the match was a tight affair. Nelson Bay got a flying start, kicking two first-quarter goals and keeping Newcastle City scoreless until the third quarter.
The match was in the balance leading into the final quarter, a quarter which the Blues dominated.
However, stern defence from the Marlins held firm.
Philippa Smyth, Sigrid Allen and Sophie Balcombe were the best for Nelson Bay with Taylah Gray, Monique Boulos and Rose Dunne the pick for Newcastle City.
At Max McMahon Oval, Warners Bay overcame a depleted but still strong Maitland, 5.11 (41) to 3.3 (21).
Sunday’s match at Tulkaba Park saw a heart-stopping finish, Lake Macquarie holding off a fast-finishing Wyong Lakes side 4.4 (28) to 4.2 (26).
After an even first quarter, Lake Macquarie led by 13 points at halftime.
Moving Wyong star defender Emily Bohan worked a treat as she troubled the Lake Macquarie defence, finishing the game with three goals as the Magpies threw in everything but still came up two points short.
