By now, most residents will have heard something about the government's plans to make changes to the boundaries of local councils across NSW, in an effort to achieve goals they have identified.
Lake Macquarie City Council opposes recommendations to amalgamate with Newcastle City Council because analysis and consultation has demonstrated that it is not in the best interests of residents in either city.
Lake Macquarie council is performing strongly and is well placed to provide good quality services that its residents expect and rely on.
The council's land planning and catchment management is sustainable and efficient, and it has been recognised for its first-rate assets and service delivery.
The council's financial sustainability has also been acknowledged by NSW Treasury.
In other news, it is with great sadness this week that I acknowledge the passing of one of our former councillors.
Councillor Paul Scarfe made a considerable contribution to the City of Lake Macquarie, and he played a significant role in supporting and encouraging local businesses.
He was a very proud Lake Macquarie resident and councillor, who will be remembered by many for his work to progress the city.
