Mary Poppins will be showing at the Civic throughout August, filling the theatre with renditions of A Spoonful of Sugar, Chim Chim Cher-ee and Feed The Birds.
Mary Poppins is enjoying a second wave of popularity, following on from the 1964 Disney film adaption of the P.L. Travers book.
Director Julie Black said only a handful of production companies had the rights to produce the show, and Metropolitan Players was throwing everything it could muster at the play.
Last year Metropolitan Players presented a highly successful production of Hairspray, scoring an unprecedented 17 CONDA nominations and winning six awards, including best musical and best director.
Black said months of planning had been invested into Mary Poppins, including the set design and construction, costumes and wigs.
Auditions for the lead roles of Mary (Alana Silcock) and Bert (Daniel Stoddart) were held in September last year while auditions for the rest of the cast were held in November.
The cast of 46 includes Andrew Black (as George Banks), Ann Hartsuyker-Accardi (Winifred Banks), Amelia Accardi/Molly Sorensen (Jane Banks), Levi Stoddart/Tim Davies (Michael Banks), Annie Devine (Mrs Brill), Drew Holmes (Robertson Ay), Rachelle Schmidt (Miss Andrews) and Michelle Burnitt (Bird Woman).
Metropolitan Players' production of Mary Poppins is on at the Civic Theatre from Wednesday, August 5, until Saturday, August 15. For tickets go to ticketek.com or phone 4929 1977.
