Planning for NAIDOC started in term four last year when 10 students from the school started making their instruments under the leadership of Alex Nean.
Mr Nean is the community liaison officer at Callaghan College's Wallsend Campus.
Students in the school's yidaki (or didgeridoo) group sanded and waxed the wood before they added traditional patterns representing their families.
Elders, parents and staff watched the performance in the school playground.
Wallsend Public School's NAIDOC celebrations also included an Aboriginal artefact show, bracelet making and the creation of a mural.
