Part of the Heart Foundation's Walking initiative, the group was suggested by Doctor Vadiraj Raghavendra of the Glover Street Surgery.
He believes that being active on a regular basis is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, and that walking is a great way to look after your heart.
The group was started by the surgery's nurses Anne Beath and Wendy Fillingham.
Mrs Beath previously set up a Heart Foundation Walkers group and has seen the benefits.
She said it promoted a healthy body and mind.
"It encourages people to get out and exercise and they chat while they walk," Mrs Beath said.
"Going as a group helps to boosts their confidence and some start to walk on other days."
With such a big input from the surgery as well as being the rendezvous point, the most obvious name for the group was the Glover St Walkers.
The free group is open to everyone - men and women of different fitness levels.
■ The Glover St Walkers meet at 9.20am at number 32 each Tuesday and start the 40-minute walk at 9.30am. For more information, phone 4945 4619.
