The 17-year-old has been a member of the Newcastle SES Unit for two years.
He has responded to numerous emergency call-outs for help during that time.
He was part of a NSW SES cadet program at Lambton High School in 2013 and led a successful team at the Fire Cadet Championship that same year.
Shaun also completed courses in storm and water damage response, swift water awareness, rescue, communications and first aid.
The SES Young Volunteer of the Year award was open to anyone aged between 16 and 25 years who has demonstrated a commitment to learning and contributed as a member of a NSW SES unit or region.
