At Feighan Oval, Nelson Bay made better use of the windy conditions to defeat Warners Bay, 7.7 (49) to 4.1 (25).
Missing coach Lauren Cooper and key player Aimee Duthy, the Marlins started the game well and, despite kicking into strong wind, they led by one point at the first change.
Nelson Bay took control of the match in the second quarter to lead by 28 points at half-time.
A highlight of the term was a magnificent snapped goal from deep in the pocket from the competition’s leading goal kicker, Jemma Astley.
Newcastle City came back with a vengeance in the third quarter, kicking three goals to nil to trail by nine points heading into the final quarter.With the game on the line the Marlins were not about to let their lead slip.
They kicked the only two goals of the final term and ran out 24-point winners.
Warners Bay eliminated Lake Macquarie from this year’s competition with an 11.9 (75) to 1.1 (7) victory in the first semi-final.
Newcastle City and Warners Bay will meet this Saturday for the preliminary final at 10.15am at No.1 Sportsground.
