The Clarke family, of Swansea, will next month hold Camping For Cancer at Swansea Gardens Lakeside Holiday Park.
About 140 friends and family members from across the state, and some family members in Ireland, have signed up to camp out on the weekend of September 5 to 6, in honour of what Fran Clarke loved most: to be outdoors.
Mrs Clarke was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on January 2.
On March 23, at age 62, she lost her battle with the disease.
The family saw the camping event as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and keep Mrs Clarke's memory alive.
"If what we do now at some stage in the future prevents another family from the heartache that we are experiencing then at least something has come from our loss," son Jon said.
Camping For Cancer is a registered Cancer Council event.
The Clarkes' fundraising goal is $10,000 and they have already raised $2500. Healthcare company Johnson & Johnson has vowed to match the sum dollar-for-dollar.
The event is open to anyone who has a motorhome, caravan, tent or swag.
There will be a raffle, with prizes such as a helicopter ride, fishing charter, Swansea channel boat ride, gift certificates and movie vouchers.
A variety of activities will be on offer, including a kids' disco, karaoke, putt putt golf, lawn bowls, market stalls, and a fishing competition.
