LIGHT rail travelling through Newcastle’s CBD will have a maximum speed of 40km/h on the road and 60km/h through corridors, the state government has revealed.

The state government provided more information about its light rail plans for Newcastle a business forum on Wednesday morning, as part of its Revitalising Newcastle consultation.
The business community was also told the expected capacity for the light rail vehicles is 120 people, with 40 seated and 80 standing.
Light rail vehicles will be 23 metres in length, bidirectional and will be able to accommodate wheelchairs, strollers and surfboards.
